IELTS

The International English Language Testing System (IELTS) is composed of four sections, which are designed to present a profile of an individual's English language ability. There are two IELTS Modules: Academic and General Training (consult your respective Assessing Authority on which module to take).

Academic module should be taken by those applying for tertiary undergraduate and postgraduate courses and TAFE courses. Also, note that most professional nurses associations require the academic module.

General Training module should be taken by those who are going to English speaking countries to complete their Secondary education, to undertake work experience or training programmes not at degree level, or for immigration purposes.

Qualified and trained personnel administer IELTS at least three times a month at the British Council - Manila Centre. Candidates will sit for four tests: Listening, Reading, Writing and Speaking. The three written tests will take a total of three hours to complete. The Speaking test takes 15 minutes.

The test is not "pass or fail" situation. It simply measures the candidate's language ability in the four skills. Test results will indicate whether a candidate meets or does not meet the English proficiency level required by the course programme of the education institution or the Embassy (for immigration purposes). Test results are ready two weeks after the test.
